1922-1933
Cyril R. Littlebury (1898-1936) was born in Worcester, England and began taking photographs in the Canadian provinces of British Columbia and Alberta in the early 1920’s. He not only carefully numbered his negatives, but also dated and identified their subject matter. For this reason alone his photographs have significant archival value.
In 1946, these negatives were destined for a landfill but for the accidental intervention by my father, Alfred Booth. Among the litter in a long vacant house was a small wood case in which there were one thousand negatives. These dad presented to me when I was but 14 years old.
In recent years the author discovered that it was Cyril R. Littlebury who took these magical images. At about the same time technology arrived that permitted the negatives to be scanned and converted to digital images that permitted restoration. Time has been turned back 80 years, to the time that Littlebury looked through his camera viewfinder.
Exhaustive research has discovered wonderful historical accounts that accompany these photographs.
